The Mission of Mercy (MOM) dental outreach began in Virginia in 2000. MOM dental programs are offered in 17 states providing almost 100,000 patients with nearly 50 million dollars in free dental care.
Patients served by MOM events are those facing barriers to care. Access to dental care is a complex problem for families who are economically disadvantaged, have disabilities, live in remote areas, face cultural and language barriers, or have difficulties navigating government programs.
In August 2012, Dr. George Hankerson was amongst 1,000 plus volunteers taking part in this wonderful outreach program. Minnesota's first Mission of Mercy took place in Mankato. During the course of two days, volunteers saw 2,062 patients and provided them with $1,302,983 in free dental care.
Mission of Mercy (MOM) rely on the generous help of volunteers (dentists, hygienists, assistants, lab technicians and community members). If you are interested in volunteering for future events please visit www.mndental.org or call 800-952-3368.
